The Lavanburg Foundation provides seed grants to organizations working in New York City and its surrounding areas who share our belief that good housing is more than matter of bricks and mortar — that it should also provide the means to build lives through social support. |

The photograph depicts the original Lavanburg homes at Baruch Place, which were a successful model for innovative low-income housing in the late 1920s and 30s. The project drew students of housing and sociology from all over the United States and Europe. Policies developed there came to be applied on a grand scale throughout the nation. Once their usefulness as a "project" had been outlived, the Foundation donated the buildings to the city. |
